If you have uterine fibroids, changes in your discharge could arise alongside symptoms such as heavy bleeding or uterine enlargement. What to Expect from Fibroid Discharge

You may notice pink, watery discharge before treating uterine fibroids, likely indicating spotting in your menstrual cycle. Then, if you choose to undergo Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE treatment) or myomectomy surgery, the discharge may switch appearance as you expel muscular tissue, a process known as fibroid sloughing.

Fibroid Sloughing

If you choose to treat your fibroids with UFE, there's a small chance that you'll discharge fibroid tissue, usually in the first 10 weeks after your procedure. Painful cramps may accompany this fibroid discharge, as can large blood clots a foul odor.  Keep in mind that foul-smelling discharge could indicate a brewing infection, so tell your doctor right away if you notice this symptom.

Post-Surgical Fibroid Discharge

After myomectomy surgery, it's normal to notice reddish-brown or brown discharge. You could also experience spotting between periods. And your period may come earlier than normal after the procedure, still causing heavy bleeding for the first few cycles.

When to Seek Medical Attention

Fibroid discharge is not usually a cause for concern. However, if you notice a bad odor with discharge, see your doctor right away to rule out an infection. Of course, fibroid sloughing and/or infections are relatively rare occurrences following UFE in Dallas. It's far more likely that treatment will shrink your tumors over time, resulting in relief of your fibroid symptoms. Want to see if you're a candidate for this minimally invasive fibroid treatment?
